“What really for me stands out with Max,apart from the obvious that he’s super quick, it’s that it’s always a good weekend. He never has an off weekend, there’s never a track that doesn’t suit him, there’s never a weekend where his car isn’t right for him or anything like that. “It seems from the outside at least. Ich hatte nur gesehen, dass in der letzten Runde die holländischen Fans aufsprangen. Da wusste ich: Max ist vorne. Und Lewis hatte mit seinen Reifen keine Chance. Nun, beide hätten den Titel verdient. Schade für Hamilton, denn er hatte eine bärenstarke zweite Saisonhälfte. Jetzt gratuliere ich einfach beiden Piloten.

“When I think of team-mates I definitely think of Max,”
“He’s the first one that comes to mind because he’s the longest team-mate I’ve had in Formula 1. I think we pushed each other for better or worse, whether it was a heated rivalry or a respectful intensity we got the best out of each other. We both thrived off it.
“So like with Max sure we had a rivalry, but I think we always respected each other. But there was a bit of a lid on our relationship as team-mates, but when I then moved on from Red Bull and I felt like because we weren’t directly competing with each other we were able to actually form a better relationship.”

“They have clearly got the aero balancing great, they have great ride quality, he (Verstappen) doesn’t ever have any problems with bumps. So when you’ve got a stable platform like that…and they are a great team. They have done an amazing job, you’ve got to take your hat off to Red Bull, they have done a phenomenal job.
“They had a great car last year as well. I mean, Adrian Newey doesn’t generally build bad cars. He’s built amazing cars over the years. My first championship car (2008 McLaren) was an evolution of his car. I know he did his thesis on ground-effect floors. It’s no surprise, to be honest. He’s one of the only ones that draw by hand, the design of cars.
“So his understanding there has definitely been an advantage to them and they have done a great job.”
